Mobility Society

Society seen through the lens of mobilities

Mobility shapes a society, its relationships, and social structures. To fully understand its significance and potential, one must recognize mobility as an interdisciplinary entanglement of relationships. This book, co-edited by Granstudio, explores mobility from different angles, highlighting the ways in which it defines society on micro and macro levels. These angles are presented in a broad series of compelling contributions, from visual to scientific essays, by experts in various fields.

Mobility lenses

The design of the book enables the reader to discover practical and visionary links and to explore unseen relationships between mobilities and aspects of our evolving society. To achieve this, the editors reflect on a new way of making sense of society by looking at the world through “mobility lenses,” expanding current mental and physical societal confines. This design approach to societal investigation invites the reader to go on a surprising journey through the flows of goods, people, materials, ideas and assets, and the interaction between them. It strips the world naked of its bias and unmovable qualities, and creatively explores the softer movements that shape society at ecological, global, and human levels.

“This book uses the power of metaphors to create a narrative that will last and that will inspire legions of students, scholars and practitioners to think and to act, create, and design.”
