Vostri Portici
THE PROJECT
CONTEXT
Turin’s porticoes are a defining element of the city’s identity, yet their use has become fragmented over time. The project explores how these spaces can be reactivated as shared environments that support everyday urban life.
ROLE
Granstudio collaborated on a user-driven approach, shaping tools and scenarios to understand how people experience and use public space.

THE SHIFT
Public space is shaped by how it is used.
The project shifts focus from static urban design to active participation, where citizens contribute to defining how spaces are experienced, activated, and shared over time.

APPROACH
SENSE
We observed how people move, pause, and interact within the porticoes, combining field research with direct user input. The focus was on uncovering everyday behaviors, local habits, and overlooked patterns of use across different areas of the city.
SHAPE
Insights were translated into scenarios and lightweight interventions that explore how the porticoes can support new activities. These ranged from temporary uses to alternative ways of occupying space, testing how design can enable interaction and participation.
MAKE
User-driven activities and on-site experiments brought these ideas into real conditions, allowing the city to test and evaluate new uses of the space through direct engagement with citizens and stakeholders.

“We don't just redesign spaces, we turn them into places where life can happen.”
OUTCOME

I Vostri Portici introduces a participatory framework that reactivates public space through collective use, enabling new forms of interaction and engagement within the city.
